Blend Components:
Kenya Kiambu Estates - Natural
El Salvador, Las Mercedes - Washed
Brazil Fazenda Natureza - Natural

Kenya - Kiambu Estates:
Producer: Various Kiambu Region Estates Altitude: 1950 meters above sea level (MASL) Process: Natural Variety: SL28, SL34, Batian, Ruiru 11

In Kenya, the practice of specialty natural coffee processing is a rare gem. Cherry selection is meticulous, and these cherries are sun-dried on elevated African beds for an extended period of up to six weeks. The drying process involves careful turning to ensure uniform drying, preventing over-fermentation or the formation of molds. To safeguard against moisture damage, the cherries are shielded at night and during rainfall.

Kiambu County, situated just outside Nairobi city, boasts a rich history of coffee production and is renowned for its expansive estates, initially established by British colonists in the early 20th century. After decolonization, these estates transitioned into the hands of local Kenyan owners, who have since been managing them. Although such estates once dominated Kenyan coffee production, urban expansion from Nairobi and rising land values in the region have led to a gradual decline in estate coffee production, while smallholder production in other areas has surged.

El Salvador - Las Mercedes:
Producer: Jose Fernando Aguilar Altitude: 1350-1700 meters above sea level (MASL) Process: Washed Variety: Pacamara, Pacas, Marsellesa, Custcatleco, ‘Kenia,’ and Bourbon

For six generations, the Aguilar family has cultivated coffee on their lush, shade-rich land situated on the northeastern slope of the San Salvador Volcano, affording a panoramic view of the capital city of San Salvador. Covering nearly 160 hectares at altitudes ranging from 1,250 to 1,700 meters (4,100 to 5,577 feet), the estate's lofty altitude, uncommon for El Salvador, bestows upon it significant coffee-growing potential. Las Mercedes, along with its sibling estate Santa Maria, is encompassed by a 100-hectare nature reserve that is part of the Meso-American Biological Corridor. Within this expanse lies a remarkable 'mini rainforest,' characterized by a noticeable temperature drop as you ascend to the highest coffee regions.
Given the utmost importance of preserving this forest, the Aguilar family, in collaboration with a local NGO, employs two park rangers to oversee the safeguarding of this protected natural forest year-round.

Brazil Fazenda Natureza:
Producer: Minasul Cooperatives Altitude: 900-1100 meters above sea level (MASL) Process: Natural Variety: Mundo Nuvo, IPR-30, Cattura, Bourbon
